1 Mill Street started with a vision from co-founders Nigel and Dessie Shanahan: to bring people together, help them thrive, and have some fun along the way. 

In 2018, with the sale of their first “business baby” on the horizon, Nigel and Dessie were ready to create something magical to give back to the community they loved.

During a lunchtime stroll, they spotted a beautiful, red-brick building right across from Jephson Gardens, with “community hub” written all over it (not literally, but you get the idea). The building, previously known as Urquhart Hall, had hosted everything from theatre groups to local gatherings for the Sikh community.

Nigel and Dessie instantly knew that this space could become something bigger—a space where Leamington’s locals could connect, work, and make good things happen together, a passion project where together we Made Good Grow.

And so, 1 Mill Street and Make Good Grow was born: a haven for freelancers, digital creatives, startups, and anyone keen to do good things with good people. It’s more than just a workspace; it’s a spot where big ideas, local legends, and many laughs come together.

Our relationships with local charities and people in need are supported heavily by our members, known as ‘Passioneers’, who are keen to give back to the community and support causes right on our doorstep.

What began as a walk in the park led to a new community space buzzing with energy, creativity, and a sense of purpose. Here at 1 Mill Street, it’s all about doing well, doing good, and having a blast while we’re at it.

For four years, our team has been making connections, fostering collaborations, and strengthening our community ties while ensuring that every penny of our profits stays within the company to enrich what we offer.
